Kitten Sexing Guide – How to Tell if a Kitten is a Boy or Girl

I recently purchased a Ragdoll kitten which we understood was a girl I have taken it to our vet who is saying it’s s boy. The seller is adamant that it’s a girl as she sexed and her vet confirmed it. To be honest both seem correct and I’d like your view if possible.

We picked up a female kitten today (10 weeks old). In the process of treating her for fleas as she was from a farm and needs a bit of love…. however, we think she is a boy. We don’t know the sex or age of our kitten. Let me give you a little background. I appologize for the length, but we have no experience with kittens & wanted to share our journey/discoveries as we went. To make it easier, I’m going to refer to the kitten as a female.

We live in a rural area. On November 21st, we found our kitten by almost running her over on a back road between fields. We stopped the car & she just sat there in the middle of the road meowing. Poor kitten had puss filled eyes dried shut. Her rear end & tail was still covered in dry mucas from birth & feces. The anus, swollen & extended.

We took her home. Cleaned her up. Already owning a cat, I had antibiotic pads for her eyes, as well as witch hazel & hemorrhoid cream for the swelled/bleeding anus. She took to kitten wet food immediately. I discovered for the first 3 days, I had to use gentle pressure on the anus for her to have a bowl movement, which was all liquid diarrhea. The diarrhea was making her anus swelling/irritation worse. After about a week we realized she would eat dry kitten food softened in warm water. It helped stop the diarrhea.

We don’t know her age, but when we first took her home she could easily fit in one of our hands, claws extremely long for her little paws, little teeth coming in, & her eyes were very bulgy/glossy/unfocused as well. While trying to figure out her age, we came to the conclusion that she must have been the runt of the litter, being left behind by mom.

We thought when we found her, she might have been 3 weeks. Others said maybe 4 weeks. Being possibly a runt has thrown us off on what her age might be. We tried also comparing pictures found online. When you look at her genetalia, claws, lack of fur, little teeth, and size in general, she doesn’t match up!

We also can’t tell if she is male or female. The genetalia region, including the inside base of her tail, is hairless. Probably from the trauma of the diarrhea and not being cared for by her mom? We aren’t sure. Overall, she seemed to have less hair everywhere, than the pictures we found of 3 or 4 week kittens.

Now it’s December 4th. She still only eats softened kitten dry food (it’s only been about a week since she started). She is still very small, but a little more fluffier with more hair. Sharper teeth, even longer nails! Her eyes have started to settle in- less bulgy, less glossy, more focused. Her eyes are still blue, but to me, it looks like they are starting to change color to green. Her anus and inside base of tail area is still hairless. We are dealing with a case of rawness at the base of her tail, where it settles over her anus. (Any suggestions on how to help this, would be great!) She is now very playful and trained to a litterbox. We still don’t know her age or sex.

I will link you the pictures of her when we got her on November 21st, and pictures taken more recently after December 1st. I will also include a picture taken today, December 4th, of her rear end area. You will see how raw the area is! I labeled the dates on all pictures. We’ve had her for 2 weeks.

I know it may be difficult, but if you could help estimate her age and sex, it would be extremely helpful! P.S. We will be taking her to get for check up and shots in next few weeks. It would just be helpful to have this info now. Here are the links to pictures:

I have three foster kittens who are just turning 7 weeks old, and we are struggling to determine their sex, even comparing them to each other. They are healthy and are voracious eaters, but they’re extremely tiny for their age–the largest one just hit 13 ounces, and the other two are right around 11 ounces each. This makes it hard to tell what we’re even looking at. Plus, they don’t like to sit still. 😉 If I can wrangle them together for pictures, can you help?

Hello, my dads girlfriend found a kitten that was about to be eaten by a bird so we brought it home. I have been nursing it waking up almost every 2 and a half hours to feed/help it go the bathroom.
